Crisfield City Hall
The City of Crisfield's Administrative Offices are located in City Hall on West Main Street in Downtown Crisfield.  Residents can come by City Hall to:
  1. Pick up permits or inquire about zoning issues
  2. Pay water bills
  3. Pay City Taxes
  4. Register to Vote in City elections
  5. Arrange for special trash pick up
  6. Pay parking fines
  7. Purchase Dog Tags for the County

The City operates with a Mayor / Council / Manager form of government with the City Council made up of five  elected members and an elected Mayor.  All Council members are elected "at large" by the citizens of Crisfield and serve a four year term.  The day to day administration for the City is handled by a City Manager who is appointed by the Mayor and Council. 

Election day for Mayor and Council falls on the 3rd Wednesday of June.  Voting takes place at City Hall. Though each council member and the Mayor all serve four year terms, the terms are staggered among council members alternating every two years to insure continuity in leadership.

The City Manager supervises all staff and is responsible for the effective management of all financial and administrative actions of the City. He is responsible for implementing all policy matters established by the Mayor and City Council and enforcing all City Ordinances.

Public Meetings
The City Council convenes for regular meetings on the second Wednesday of the month - at 6:00 PM at the Tawes Museum (2nd floor). Council meetings are open to the public.  If you have an issue to be addressed by the Mayor and Council at the Town meeting, you must call ahead and request to be put agenda.
Minutes for Public Meetings are posted to the City of Crisfield Website.

Department Head Meetings are held the 4th Wednesday of the month at the Tawes Museum - 6:00 PM.

ORDINANCE NO. 573

CITY OF CRISFIELD
STREETS AND SIDEWALKS


AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CRISFIELD AMENDING CHAPTER 95 SECTION 9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CRISFIELD MARYLAND.

       WHEREAS, the City of Crisfield has determined that the municipal sidewalk system is in need of substantial supplementation to upgrade existing sidewalks and to fill in gaps in the system; and

       WHEREAS, the City of Crisfield has determined it would be advantageous to require that such upgrades occur upon the transfer of real property within the City limits; and

       WHEREAS, the City of Crisfield has determined it would be in the public interest to mandate sidewalk construction and/or reconstruction upon such occasions.

THIS ORDINANCE GOES INTO EFFECT MAY 29, 2007 AND MAY BE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY AT CITY HALL.

 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Mayor and City Council will conduct a Public Hearing on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. at the Tawes Museum.

The purpose of this hearing is to accept public comment regarding the borrowing of funds from USDA, by the City of Crisfield, of an amount not to exceed one million dollars, for the purpose of renovating the 1936 sewer line.

Comments may be submitted in writing prior to the hearing or in person at the hearing.

MANDATORY ADHERENCE TO RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE
COLLECTION REGULATIONS


Effective March 19, 2007, residential garbage will not be collected unless the following rules and regulations are adhered to;


Storage of garbage and trash. [Amended 1-31-1977 by Ord. No. 311: 4-9-1997 by Ord. No. 504]

A.
All garbage, waste foods, organic matters, glass, paper and all kinds of trash existing on residential premises within the city shall be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag in a covered galvanized or plastic garbage can, with a maximum size of 30 gallons, except that items segregated for recycling shall be placed in recycling containers obtained from the city.

B.
Such garbage and trash will be collected by city employees on a weekly basis, adhering to a schedule which shall be established by the Superintendent of Public Works. The schedule of collection may be changed from time to time, and will be adjusted to accommodate holidays or inclement weather. The public will be notified of such schedules by notices posted in City Hall and other public notices from time to time as may appear appropriate.

C.
For purposes of such collection, residents or property owners shall place trash containers at the curbline of their property not earlier than 6:00 pm of the day before the scheduled collection nor later than 7:30 am of the day of scheduled collection.

D.
Residents or property owners shall be responsible that all materials placed for collection shall be contained as provided in Subsection A hereof, and that they remain so contained until collected by city employees.

Violators will be subject to the issuance of a Municipal Infraction and fine of up to $1,000 per violation, payment due within 20 days. Subject Municipal Infraction shall be delivered by an officer of the Crisfield Police Department. Enforcement of fines shall begin the week of April 2, 2007.

Residents are also required to follow safety regulations when disposing of used syringes by placing them in empty 2 liter bottles or other sturdy, closed containers, as this presents a health hazard to Public Works personnel.

NOTICE - New Police Chief to be introduced

At the February 14, 2007 meeting of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Crisfield, the Department Heads will present their monthly report. The new Chief of Police will be introduced at that time.

The regular meeting of the Mayor and City Council will be held on Wednesday,
February 28, 2007.

These meetings will be held upstairs at the Tawes Museum at 6:00 p.m.
